The last day of Term 1 was a real treat for our whanau classes. Our kaiako decided to organise a whanau day to share together with our families. Whanau day begun after morning tea. We all met in Te Pouahi 16. We started with a karakia and sung a waiata to welcome our parents and begin our day. We then involved ourselves in many activities. These included Maori board games, string games, and knuckle bones. We had to try our best at speaking Te Reo throughout playing these games. Our parents were great at getting involved.
At 12:00 it was kai time. We had all brought along heaps of kai to share with the whanau. There were sandwiches, donuts, sushi, cake, fruit, cold meat platters and lots more. There was such a variety of kai, it was delicious!!! More parents arrived to have shared kai with us, which was great.

1:30 arrived...Let the games begin!!! We enjoyed an afternoon of tabloid sports. The events were:

  • Three legged race

  • Sack races in the hangi sacks

  • Quiot throw

  • Beanbag throw

  • Skipping races

Our parents did a great job of running the activites. We were given a point for participation and extra points for coming 1st, 2nd, 3rd or extra special points from the judges if we were heard speaking Te Reo. Most of us managed to get points for speaking Te Reo which was great!! Our parents were trying really hard too!

The day was just great, we can't wait to do it again!!!

Butterfly Paintings

Here we are painting our butterflies. We learnt that butterflys have feelers shaped like mini golf clubs, they have many eyes, some have spots on their wings and their tongues are used like straws.

Whaea Erina gave us an outline of a butterfly. We had to choose a colour to paint our butterfly body. This was our main colour and background. Once this had dried, we painted some black spots, and we put some glitter around the outlines of the body to make our butterflies bright and sparkly.

3rd time lucky!!!!

This is the third and hopefully final blogspot for Te Pouahi 16. Whaea Erina should have it right this time. Our first blog was definetly a practise one. Our second one was all good to go, but... Whaea Erina forgot all the passwords and user names for us to keep posting on our blog. Here we are lucky number three blog, this should be an even better one than the last two!!! Nau mai haere mai koutou katoa.
